Aramco will host a new community initiative, the Aramco Beach Run, to raise funds for The Hague’s Juliana Children’s Hospital, one of the Netherland’s leading paediatric hospitals. The running event will take place on Sunday May 7, 2017 at Scheveningen beach with an estimated 1,500 participants, and continues Aramco’s commitment to supporting citizenship in local communities.

Aramco employees in The Hague have a long history of actively engaging in local outreach programs including volunteering for local Food Banks, cleaning up the beach dunes as well as monitoring local water pollution levels. The Company and its employees are committed to supporting local communities and helping those in need.

Speaking about the event, Aramco Overseas’ President, Fahad Al-AbdulKareem said, “We are pleased to announce the Juliana Children’s Hospital as our official Beach Run citizenship partner. At Aramco, we aim to better serve the communities we operate in and support local organizations. We are looking forward to joining with our friends in The Hague to support this important cause.”

The Aramco Beach Run encourages all participants to raise money for the Juliana Children’s Hospital, with funds going towards the research and treatment of children with recurring respiratory tract infections.

“A respiratory tract infection is often the main reason to hospitalise children in the Netherlands”, notes paediatric infectious disease specialist Gertjan Driessen. “We often see children under 2 years with recurrent respiratory tract infections who are short of breath and seriously ill. Through research, we want to gain more insight into the possible causes so we can better treat these little patients."

This inaugural running event will include three runs to suit all ages and fitness levels: the 1km Family Run, the 5km Boulevard & Beach Run and the 10 km Hero Run along the beach promenade, pier and dunes. The race’s start and finish will take place at The Hague Beach Stadium, where additional activities and entertainment will be organised for participants and spectators.

Local organisations are also encouraged to participate in the Business Runs for 5km or 10km distances, where teams of four can compete for a combined group score. For registration and full details, please visit www.aramcobeachrun.com
