Position Description and Requirements
As a part of a global initiative to develop transportation fuel R&D expertise, Aramco Fuel Research Center is expanding its Paris based team and has an immediate opening for a senior Energy Systems Modeler. This opening is an excellent opportunity for an experienced candidate with extensive, multi-disciplinary knowledge. Duties & Responsibilities
Support Aramco’s energy systems analysis work by developing and applying mathematical modelling tools to gain strategic insights into the evolution of low-carbon technologies and their impact on the overall energy landscape
Identify and analyze trends and developments in European energy economics, trade patterns, product specifications, supply/demand of crude oil and refined products, consumer behavior and environmental policies applicable to the energy sector
Develop energy systems models to forecast and generate outlook reports on the development of energy supply/demand balances by sector, primarily within Europe
Use dedicated modeling frameworks to translate policy and technology developments into research questions and business opportunities
Participate in various strategic transport studies aimed at understanding the interplay between future engine and fuel technologies and the global energy demand / supply landscape
Provide advice to senior management on research strategies and plans in the transportation fuel area
Foster professional relationships with local and international research institutions and industrial partners
Support other departments and admin areas within Aramco
Organize technical meetings and conferences on the topics related to his/her area of expertise
Identify opportunities and make recommendations for continuous improvements as part of the global Saudi Aramco Research & Development team
Interact at all levels within Saudi Aramco and its subsidiaries and operating departments in discussions related to technical and strategic topics
Mentor and oversee the development of young researchers in the candidate’s area of specialty.
Make reports and presentations and publish technical papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Essential Requirements
Ph.D. in operations research, industrial engineering or systems engineering with a focus on energy systems modeling from an accredited university
5 to 8 years of relevant professional experience
Deep understanding of the overall energy landscape, supply/demand equilibrium and market structures
Ability to understand and critique economic analyses, business strategies or public policies.
Extensive experience with programming languages (GAMS, AIMMS, Python etc.)
Experience with mathematical programming techniques including linear programming, nonlinear programming, mixed-integer programming and mixed complementarity problem
Experience with developing and using energy systems models (MARKAL/TIMES, KEM, NEMS, LEAP, OSeMOSYS, MESSAGE, etc.)
Proven track record of publications and innovations
Strong interpersonal, communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills
Ability to work in multicultural team
Fluency in English, French is an advantage
