Research Science Consultant – Drilling



Aramco Overseas Company (AOC), is a service provider to the world’s leader in integrated energy and chemicals, Saudi Aramco. At our Aberdeen Technology Office (ATO) we actively encourage the development and delivery of technologies key to the success of Saudi Aramco’s upstream goals. Through accessing resources external to the Kingdom, Saudi Aramco’s ATO office engages with industry and academia to facilitate technology transfer and develop short as well as long-term technology delivery portfolios. Within the ATO office our staff enjoy an international environment, and provide excellent service to our customer, Saudi Aramco is ultimately the main focus.

The Drilling Focus Area develops new drilling tools and work over technology for use in Saudi Arabia working both with in-house ideas and in collaboration with universities, research firms, and engineering and manufacturing companies. We are looking for the next big opportunities in the drilling optimization and we work closely with Aramco users to discover new opportunities and bring them to reality. Projects are covered from idea initiation to full field commercialization.

In this role you will:
Search for opportunities and solutions in drilling technology, specifically in the area of advanced drilling tools, drilling systems and drilling automation and optimization. Team members are expected to work on innovations that can bring significant value to Saudi Aramco
Able to work with multiple Saudi Aramco departments to execute all phases of the product development process including; technical justification, finance, legal agreements, project management, milestone evaluations, field trials, and early commercialization.
Able to prepare presentations for senior management and make high impact points in a concise format
Able to engage with management on important point of discussion
Ability to transition quickly from the big picture, down to working on the detail
Appropriate business acumen and appropriate soft skills are just as important as technical skills

You, the candidate:
The successful candidate should hold a Bachelor Degree in engineering, physics, or a closely related field. MSc or PhD is desirable however not necessary if candidate has extensive work experience
You have wide experience and knowledge of petroleum engineering and all research related to drilling technology
You have at least 9 years of combined experience in the oil industry, and directly related to drilling systems from either an operator or service company perspective
Must have experience in the area of drilling technology development (Service Company) or drilling design, implementation, and use (Operator). Specific experience in general well construction practices and well control is essential
R&D experience is preferred, however a broad experience and knowledge of petroleum engineering including
You possess strong project management skills, outstanding analytical ability and excellent presentation skills
Knowledge base of the latest developments in drilling and work over technology demonstrated through work experience, patents, conferences, seminars, and professional journals.
