Saudi Aramco does The Big Bang!

Saudi Aramco demonstrated its commitment to science and engineering by supporting the CREST awards scheme at the Big Bang Fair, the largest single celebration of science aimed at young people in the UK. The fair took place at the Excel Centre in London from March 10-12.

Winners of CREST (Creativity in Engineering, Science and Technology), Britain’s largest national awards scheme for project work in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects were also awarded. Mr. Khalid M. Alagil, Director UPI, Ras Tanura Integrated Project of the Chemical Admin Area attended the event and awarded Hannah Eastwood from Loreto College with the Saudi Aramco Stockholm International Youth Seminar CREST Prize for her project ‘Green Rust - The Good Gal’.

When asked how she felt about winning the Saudi Aramco prize, Hannah beamed: “It’s an unbelievable experience. I feel really honoured to win such a great prize. It’s going to be amazing to go to Stockholm and represent our country in another competition.” Alagil commented on the Big Bang: “It serves as an eye opener and source of experience for the Company’s efforts in contributing to developing and growing the engineering and science community and especially the younger generation in Saudi Arabia.”

Roots to Shoots

Saudi Aramco supported ‘Roots to Shoots’ this year, a student research project that is raising awareness amongst young people on the importance of the world’s rainforests and their contribution to modern day medicine.

The Roots to Shoots exhibit was a hit with the younger students especially. “I'm very proud of myself getting four questions correct. I've learnt that rainforests create their own rain. That's very interesting,” said Priscilla Asare from Cumberland Primary school.

The Fair aims to raise the interest of children and students in science through hands-on activities, providing the ideal opportunity to meet and compete with the country’s best and brightest.
