DISCOVERING SCIENCE WITH EARTHWATCH

February 24, 2010

Saudi Aramco is sponsoring 14 students on a science trip to Costa Rica and South Africa with Earthwatch Institute.

Students aged 16 -17 will be given the opportunity to win one of 14 places in this year’s Earthwatch Inspiring the Next Generation program, supported by Saudi Aramco. Participants could get involved in one of two amazing projects, working alongside scientists and taking part in real field research. This year, the boys will go to South Africa to study the behavior of the brown hyena, while the girls will head to Costa Rica, to learn about the sustainable production of coffee.

On last year’s Earthwatch trip, students from Saudi Arabia and the UK travelled to Kenya and Scotland. One group stayed with the Samburu community in Kenya, researching the healing properties of plants. The other studied the migration patterns of whales and dolphins whilst living on a boat off the coast of Scotland.

This is a unique opportunity to participate in one of two incredible research projects designed to show students new cultures, develop team work and leadership skills, and most importantly, take an interest in science and the environment.
