Our heritage
Since our company was formed in 1948, AOC has grown into a strong business in its own right, supporting the world’s largest oil company through the supply of materials, technologies and services. Originally located in Rome, we have a long and international history.
Originally called the Aramco Overseas Purchasing Company, this was the decade our name changed and new premises were found.
1950
In March, 1950, we changed our name to the Aramco Overseas Company (AOC), the name we still use today.
1952
AOC’s operations were moved to The Hague in The Netherlands, where we were officially registered on December 1.
1953
AOC embarked on a recruiting campaign for all types of jobs, mainly in the field of engineering and purchasing.
1955
After a number of various temporary offices in The Hague, AOC moved into a building on the Laan van Meerdervoort in The Hague. From its headquarters in The Netherlands, AOC administered offices in Rome, London, Beirut, Cairo, Sydney and Tokyo.
1956
Employee headcount was at an all time high of 875 people. AOC provided a continuous flow of equipment and services to our parent company in Dhahran, building a reputation for reliability.
